Farewell Party for J2s and Miss toh
after College day, the juniors organised the farewell treat for J2s and Miss Toh. they also invited us to thank us for participating in the college day and of course as-a-matter-of-fact that we are their seniors. hahaha.
I was pretty surprised that they had something for us. I didnt expect much since the time i spent with the sopranos i barely knew was short-lived. I like personalised stuffs :)
Then they made us have a speech. i didnt even know what to say, what reiterated what Sze Xin and Kari had said. and of course, reminding the current president not to follow Sx's bad example ;P
Choral singing becomes more fun now, with greater bonds fostered with the current alumni, knowing what the teachers have done for us and singing together with my closer choirmates.
I gonna miss my dearest Karissa soon :( remember my bath and body works Berry Vanilla body lotion! :p

Marketing.
I gained some advice from my superior.
Well, i apologised to her this afternoon. Not that she reprimanded me; she told me nicely the mistakes i made, and asked me for the reason why i didnt realise the mistakes. You see, I dont know what is the difference between a JR Hakata Station and Hakata Station. I thought JR was the JR pass and Hakata station represents the subway (you free can go check out those rail passes in Japan). She could understand my reason since I had inadequate knowledge on Japan.
Felt so paiseh at that moment; I dont like the feeling of having my superior cleaning up my mess. Okay it wasnt literally messy, she merely need to change the wording. but still... :(
After apologising to her, she explained the reality of marketing. I felt touched that she could remember what i mentioned to her earlier that i have interest in the behind-the-scenes of advertising. She told me doing the marketing line needs to be so meticulous that no details should be neglected. She then took some posters and explained to me,
"you see, design is design. Design side often get into arguments with marketing side. Designers emphasise on novelty and packaging, whereas marketers insist on revealing the the right and non-misleading information to the customers."
She then told me about her life as a student, and how she felt when her internship company only selected 1 design out of the 10 html templates she created. "people never tell you where your mistakes are. may be to you the 10 designs were good, but to the company, the remaining 9 designs were average" -- i think she sort of reiterated her point after the previous incident when she didnt present our ideas to the GM and the branch managers when we brainstormed for like the past week. We initially thought it was some Japanese culture. Or may be it is?
After what she said to me, I wrote a reminder on my post-it to remind myself to check my work every time. I must admit i can be quite careless and reckless in my work, and sometimes i can be quite lazy.
Perhaps compared to my other 2 friends, I have very little knowledge in Japanese culture and knowledge. But I am pretty sure that my marketing knowledge is at least on par or even better than them. But not knowing Japanese language and product knowledge makes me lose out. It's like having the theories, but unable to apply them to reality.
Well I guess I just need to work doubly hard to gain recognition.
Today i practised speaking Japanese conversational words with my superior and another permanent colleague who sat near my friends. Haha. I tried greeting them good morning and thanked them for their hard work (aka in Chinese xin ku ni le) and we all laughed together. I guessed its pretty hilarious to hear me speaking in Japanese, let alone Chinese :x
Learnt something today; gonna write in my week intern report :)
thank you to those who showered me their concerns over the SMSes and MSN :). Greatly appreciated!

College Day 2010
22th May 2010 was my JC's College day. It is like a Achievement day which former and present students are recognised and distinguished guests were invited to grace the event.
It is a tradition that choir would always perform on the day itself, because the school always need us to sing the college anthem.
Most of us would have forgot how to sing our school song once we leave the school. I think I will never forget how to sing the school song, perhaps till the day i stopped singing. I sang like umpteen times; it has already been forged in my long term memory :P
this year was pretty different than the usual college day. this time i was performing as an alumnus, together with the younger generation. i felt so old standing beside them. they are like 17,18? :( the juniors were generally friendly, some of them reminded me those days when i was a secretary, acted as a loudspeaker to assemble the choir, giving instructions to the entire group.
there was an idiot teacher who interfered in our singing; he thinks he's damn knowledgeable in music. Please LOH. you cant even conduct and your arrangement for the anthem is so CLICHE. If you need to bootlick the principal, then literally go lick her la!
Some of the juniors were very enthusiastic and took some photos even though they dont know me. :P I was like trying to involve some PR movements in the hope to push them to join the alumni and trying to know their names. but seriously, i couldnt remember at all. hahaha.
it feels good to sing once more. but somehow the feeling was pretty different. i no longer feel very excited or nervous when i was on stage as before. My friend said probably we are pretty used to sing in front of an audience now. But presentation wise, it still gives me jitters :s.
Practicing a song takes at least a week. But performing a song takes at most 5minutes. and sometimes what you reap is not what you sow.
Singing is not just about opening your mouth and make some tune.
Singing is more than that.

Konichiwa :D (let me utilise what i have learnt)
Today at work was pretty boring.
my project leader was sick; she had to visit the doctor after she has completed. In the end, we 3 interns were spending time doing Market Research and ka-jiao-ing each other. I tried to complete my data entry part and intern report.
we knocked off slightly earlier(ie 5mins later after knock-off time instead of the usual timing) since we have nothing much to do. I hope our project leader would give us something to do. I am no longer used to finding some time to slack. :x
I am currently trying to memorise hard for the songs that i am going to perform on Saturday. its' still not processed into my Long term memory yet and 2 more days to performance! :x
Have you ever encounter such experience: You initially were pretty involved in an activity because you are passionate about it, and suddenly after not participating for some time, you somehow feel no longer as passionate as before. you started doubting yourself if your initial decision was right.
I wonder if it applies to everyone, or that i am a variety seeker?
tomorrow work + rehearsal.
Gambate!

1st day of internship
first day was pretty alright; our GM-in-charge treated us for lunch at a korean restaurant in International Plaza. we went together with the HR staff who selected us and our project leader.
they were pretty nice people, just that i cant speak Japanese language- which creates a communication barrier. unfortunately, the other 2 interns could understand and speak Japanese, which somewhat gives me a disadvantage. one of the intern is a japanese studies major whereas the other learns japanese outside. i was pretty quiet, and i need one of the interns to translate for me. Nevertheless, the staff still speak to me, but the GM couldnt speak much to me since he's not very good with English.
on the first day i realised i need to make an effort to catch up with the other 2 interns since i came 3 days later than them. The company is pretty focused; at least they dont ask interns to do sai kang. they really just want you to focus on the projects they assigned to you. my project leader allows us to sit together to discuss about our projects.
I had a great time discussing with the other 2 interns. I didnt treat them like colleagues, more like friends. perhaps we are all interns, and we are all similar age (but i'm still the youngest!). Coincidentally, we are all LEFT-HANDED. so COOL right? hardly you can find all lefties work together. hahaha. I guessed JTB likes creative people :)
hope this momentum keeps going while i am completing my internship.
