I'm currently in the library doing my work while waiting for Laura to come. she has become lazy ever since A levels were over. muahaha.

My boss is away for a holiday to Japan. for 8 days. :) i can enjoy 8 days of freedom now! but sometimes(or most of the times), i cant stand not doing anything. besides the computer speed and intranet is so slow. i would rather do my work in the library. definitely more freedom of course.

talking about Japan, i went there with my Choirmates 2 years ago. the trip was the most memorable trip for me, perhaps because of the company and activities organised by my teacher in charge. but ultimately, this trip bonded us together, as a choir. especially for my dear excos, although we quarrelled alot(bound to have political conflicts always in a committee), we got even closer.

Typing the word "choir" seems somewhat awkward and unfamiliar. Ultimate frisbee has replaced choir now in my current vocabulary. still, i missed those times when the whole group was singing at the airport, disneyland, minamata disease centre and on the bus, going crazy. i do missed the applauses, the audience and the stage.

yesterday had 2 birthday celebrations, so i had to run both ways.

the first one was to celebrate Hanyun's birthday and at the same time was to meet the South Africans. it been months since we officially meet up as an OG. we had our dinner at bugis steamboat, beside top one.

cant remember what made me laughed. muahaha

Nan fei~i'm absent from the photo :(

around 8 plus, i left them and went to city hall for Edward's birthday celebration at city hall. i know edward wont read this but HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDWARD! muahaha. help you announce to the whole world. i met my projectmates at newyork newyork. Cao Cao the only one who didnt come!

although exams only ended shortly 2 weeks ago, i felt that i've lost touch with school activities(except for frisbee trainings). and it seems like i've lost in contact with some of my coursemates. glad that i met up with my projectmates yesterday. i dont know if Edward has realised that we were up to something when yunjun and khai wan excused themselves for a toilet break and both of them came back together. nevertheless, we gave him a surprise at Ben and Jerry's. Yunjun and Litian made a fabulous choice for Edward's birthday trunks. :) photos will be uploaded soon after photos are sent by yj.

Sunday headed to a wake after frisbee. i had many thoughts especially after i've left the funeral. life is really unpredictable and fragile. i lost my uncle on the 20th March 2006, coincidentally was one day after his youngest daughter's 13th birthday. To me, the death of my uncle had caused me to reflect on a major mistake that i've never noticed; we mostly take each other for granted and only learnt how to appreciate them only when they are gone.

it is always said that to err is human, but most importantly, we must not repeat the same thing twice.

Ikea's press release:

Friday i left home at 9.10am to meet the WEworkz members at 10am.

Camera, lights, action!

Marketing manager of Ikea briefing the media

A swedish lady with her son baking

my ultimate favourite- CINNAMON BUNS!!

the photos will tell you how yummy those buns can be :)

Ikea staff and media team having fun with hands-on baking

From this trip, i have learnt something:

1. preparing for the media is not easy; you can number of staff running around to ensure everything runs smoothly, and also you need to speak well to engage the audience
2. society is so realistic: what do i mean?

yesterday a well dressed lady smiled to me and i smiled to her back as i walked towards the showroom kitchen. she offered her hand, trying to befriend me.

" where are you from?"
"i'm from WEworkz"

whats her response?

"oh."

then she went to look for another plump rich looking lady and did the same approach as she did to me. when that lady told her that she's not working, immediately, this super realistic woman gave her her name card(i can remember what company she's from, just that i wont mention here in case she looks for me here :D), and ask the lady to look for her when she needs to purchase their products.

so realistic huh. ya, cos i'm from weworkz, which focuses on helping the lower income women cannot afford to give you businesses right? ya, you are actually right. we cant collaborate in any areas, since you are from a niche company.

moral of this lesson? befriend with others who will benefit you. i guess that's society's underlying objectives.

okay, i have to stop blogging, i'm bakng my apple tart. hope its successful :)

Ikea live kitchen showroom:

yesterday my boss and i headed to Ikea to oversee the lower income ladies who will be helping Ikea with their baking.

Ikea invited some Swedish Ladies from some Swedish association to teach our ladies some baking.

Ikea is baking 3 types: Gingerbread cookies, Cinnamon buns and Christmas buns at the 3 "kitchens" in Ikea Alexander. you may come down and join the baking session or just eat their buns away :)

Gingerbread cookies

wonder how cinnamon rolls are made?
spread cinnamon and sugar on the dough...

and roll it up!

more cinnamon the better it is; i am absolutely obsessed with cinnamon.

members slicing the cinnamon rolls

its been months since i went to Ikea. i am glad that i have to go to ikea to take a look at our members. i really love Ikea's setting and furniture; it gives me a very homely and modern feeling. i would love to take a look at the current designs if i have the time to walk around ikea.

just now went to Ikea(again) with Linnet for dinner after buying our cleats(again). we both were looking forward to Ikea's swedish meatballs. we both ordered pasta wih meatballs and 2 chicken wings for a sumptuous dinner. the next time we come to Ikea's cafe will be brunch time :) i want to try their cakes!! we chatted while eating our yummy pasta; i really enjoyed small intimate talks.

friday i'll be there, so you may want to drop by and wave to me :)

Reflection

Thursday:

i left office early at about 4.30 just for my frisbee training and i reached the field at 6pm. we did several drills but i was pulled out by dawn to practice my throws. haha. i became rusty after missing 3 weeks of practices.

we had a game after the throws. gosh, my stamina really deteriorated- thats the consequence for not exercising and jogging for the past 3 weeks.

we were all totally mud-ded up cos of the rain. although its a dirty game, i really love training with the mud. haha. when i got home, my mother was shouting at me, asking me why the cleats, and my shirts were so damn muddy.

i was pretty upset that our frisbee gang was shrinking in size; everyone arent coming as often as before. sometimes i do not look forward for training like before. i do admit i have very low self confidence; i always compare myself with the seniors and i always pressured myself during drills, because drills will restart all over just because of you who made the error.

Friday:

recently i did a jewelry research for the jewelry making members for them to decide what type of jewelry to make and sell in Ikea. the trainer and those ladies were really very friendly to me; i did a little presentation to them regarding the trend of jewelry. and they clapped for me after i've finished elaborating. so sweet right? haha.

although i have spent only a short time in the office, i have learnt many things that could not be read from marketing principles. i have learnt how to handle demanding people, how to leave a positive impression of yourself to others, how to mingle and survive in a foreign environment, how to maintain your smile no matter how pissed you are(haha).

after work, i met up with my secondary school best friend Patricia at Holland V for dinner. i'm always glad to have someone who shares similar frequency with me. it feels good talking to her, telling her my thoughts and worries. i love small talks, it would be good if someone is willing to spend some time with me chatting, while sipping a cup of coffee in a cozy and comfortable setting.

Saturday and Sunday:

had driving on saturday and seriously my driving skills is rusty too. nowadays i'm so lazy to drive now, i feel like stopping, its so draggy.

SHOPPING!! muahaha. my favourite hobby. its an expensive maintenance though :D. i accompanied my mother for these 2 days since she's always complaining that i'm not spending any family time with her. haha. bought 3 tops :)

have to work tomorrow and i'm meeting my dear jesline senior to watch movie :)

i hope to learn something new each day.

oh here's a photo that we girls that we have taken during the chocolate fondue trip from Ruby's blog. i look so tired and haggard :(

1st day of work:

my 1st day of work was really fun.

a temporary assistant came to fetch me from the main office to the training room and met my supervisor.

and you know whats my 1st assignment?

"karen, be my translator. translate what i've said to chinese"

i know i am going to be so dead; first day of work and i am going to give my boss a damn bad impression. shitshitshit.

luckily, he doesnt seem to be mad(cos his chinese is that bad too) and the members were helping me with my chinese. otherwise i really dont know how to handle the situation.

here's my working space:

i'm glad to have a computer :) havent "decorate" the place yet. so far only brought a mug and a pair of slippers there.

my temp card :)

here's my official first marketing assignment;

how would you package this cards and what price would you set such that there is a market demand for it?

my eyes instantly lit up, cos its the first time i am using my marketing knowledge to apply to the real world! i was so excited about it, but of course i didnt express in front of my superviser and colleague.

and here's my design:

it may seem simple to you but i took great considerations regarding the font and checking which size which is the most appropriate. and i designed the border myself :). anyway, due to budget contraint, this is the best i can do.

oh ya if you want to buy, u can contact me directly :)

1 upcoming jewellry project soon to be launched :)

After exam celebration :)

Linnet, Cheryl, Pei Zhen, Joyce, Ruby, Sarah and I went for lunch together at secret recip at marina square before heading for our main agenda for today: Chocolate Fondue at Max Brenner at Esplanade:

Chocolate Fudge Brownie - Joyce's and mine ultimate fling :)

DRINK ME- Linnet's banana chocolate drink; Splendid!

Ruby's Belgian Waffle

Love the combination but waffle would be nicer if the staff take further efforts to warm the waffle up. instead the main focus of this dessert is actually the dark chocolate sauce that makes u go 'oooohhh'

Ruby's the model girl :)

Linnet and Joyce together :)

Shop's Specialty: the ULTIMATE chocolate Fondue

You will really love the fondue, who wouldnt be crazy over CHOCOLATES? the fondue consists of white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. everyone here loves dark chocolate :)

and it goes really well with these sweet food to dip with:

we girls feel really really happy when we were indulging ourselves with chocolate; its like popping in estacy and go high. i really love the aroma filling the shop and the ambience there. it feels good to actually sit down with your friends and just chat all your thoughts since we only meet each other during lectures and we hardly communicate with each other.

cant wait for more outings on the way.

i'm working tomorrow! sian.

more photos from ruby coming up!
